Established in Avalon on the romantic Santa Catalina Island by Lorren Dawes, former publisher of CoffeeHouse Digest, Catalina Island Roast Coffee is filling a gap by roasting coffee locally and has seized the title of "the only coffee roaster on the Island."
"I recently married Harbor Patrolman Dave Dawes (who has lived on the Island since age four) and was looking for a great locally roasted coffee. I discovered a few cafes that serve coffee, but not one roaster!"
Hence the process of setting up the business of roasting coffee began in Avalon. "I want to turn locals and tourists on to locally micro-roasted coffee sourced from around the world and roast it to its nuanced perfection to bring out all the tasting notes."
Lorren, a California native, has travelled to coffee farms to observe the process of coffee harvesting. "For anyone who has never been to a coffee farm, I would highly recommend it. The steps to processing coffee are tedious and one wrong move can potentially ruin it, and that includes roasting," says Lorren.
Currently, Lorren spends her days roasting coffee, brewing it for her Husband Dave and frolicking along with their dog #Buckley on his Island Explorations.
